Origen
c. 185 – c. 253 C.E.
One of the most influential early Christian apologists and exegetes was Origen of Alexandria (ca. 185–254). He is best known for his allegorical interpretation of Scripture, as seen in his numerous commentaries (e.g., Matthew, John, Romans, Psalms), his Hexapla (a work containing the Hebrew, LXX, and the recensions in parallel columns), and his polemical work Contra Celsum (Against Celsus).
