About this tradition
The geographic range covered by the term “ancient Near East” encompasses Western Asia and Egypt, although this region had contacts at various times with cultures and peoples beyond these boundaries. Thus, the territory of the ancient Near East includes that covered more or less by the modern states of Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, the Palestinian Territories, and Egypt.
