About this tradition

In addition to the Samaritan Pentateuch and the Samaritan Targum there are several writings that contain various biblical traditions and legends. These writings fall into three broad categories: midrash, chronicles, and liturgy. The origin of the Samaritan sect is disputed. The Samaritans themselves claim that they are the descendants of the ten northern tribes that were exiled by the Assyrian Empire in the eighth century B.C.E.
