Summary
Date: 70-100 C.E.
2 Baruch is a theological and apocalyptic reaction to the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple in 709 C.E. A figure from the time of a previous collapse of Jerusalem is used as a pseudonym: Baruch, the son of Neriah. Baruch is depicted as mourning the fate of the people of Israel and raising questions of God's justice and covenant promises.
