Tobit 4:6
4 Remember her, my son, because she faced many dangers for you while you were in her womb. And when she dies, bury her beside me in the same grave. 5 "Revere the Lord all your days, my son, and refuse to sin or to transgress his commandments. Live uprightly all the days of your life, and do not walk in the ways of wrongdoing; 6 for those who act in accordance with truth will prosper in all their activities. To all those who practice righteousness 7 give alms from your possessions, and do not let your eye begrudge the gift when you make it. Do not turn your face away from anyone who is poor, and the face of God will not be turned away from you. 8 If you have many possessions, make your gift from them in proportion; if few, do not be afraid to give according to the little you have. 9 So you will be laying up a good treasure for yourself against the day of necessity. 10 For almsgiving delivers from death and keeps you from going into the Darkness.
John 3:21
16 For this is the way God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world should be saved through him. 18 The one who believes in him is not condemned. The one who does not believe has been condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God. 19 Now this is the basis for judging: that the light has come into the world and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone who does evil deeds hates the light and does not come to the light, so that their deeds will not be exposed. 21 But the one who practices the truth comes to the light, so that it may be plainly evident that his deeds have been done in God.

"... John's description of the Christian life is very different from that in the SynopÂtics, especially Matthew, who is greatly concerned about the righteousness of the Kingdom of God (Matthew 5:20) and expounds it at length in the Sermon on the Mount. John, like the Synoptics, is concerned about Christian conduct, but he expresses it in very different terms. Followers of Jesus are to do the truth (3:21). This is an entirely un-Greek expression, but it has an Old Testament background (Isaiah 26:10, LXX; see Tobit 4:6; 13:6) and the idiom appears frequently in the Qumran writings. In John, 'truth' takes on its coloration from the fact that Jesus is the embodiment of God's redemptive purpose, and to do the truth means to live in the light of the revelation brought by Christ ..."
