Sirach 31:8

Deuterocanon (Ben Sira, Ecclesiasticus)

6 Many have come to ruin because of gold, and their destruction has met them face to face. 7 It is a stumbling block to those who are avid for it, and every fool will be taken captive by it. 8 Blessed is the rich person who is found blameless, and who does not go after gold. 9 Who is he, that we may praise him? For he has done wonders among his people. 10 Who has been tested by it and been found perfect? Let it be for him a ground for boasting. Who has had the power to transgress and did not transgress, and to do evil and did not do it? Source

Matthew 6:24

New Testament

22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If then your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eye is diseased, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! 24No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t there more to life than food and more to the body than clothing? 26 Look at the birds in the sky: They do not sow, or reap, or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you more valuable than they are? Source
