Summary
Date: 90-100 C.E.
The second letter of John was written to a local community of believers who are threatened by schismatic missionaries who do not share accepted Christian views of Jesus. It contains instructions and exhortations to live in joy and to walk in the commandments. Scholarship is largely in agreement that this letter was written by someone in the Johannine tradition roughly at the same time as the other Johannine letters and books.
