Ancient Near Eastern traditions often portrayed deities as storm gods who rode the clouds, spoke through thunder, and used lightning and hail as weapons. These figures controlled rain and wind, bringing both fertility and destruction, and their power was linked to the ordering of the cosmos. The Hebrew Bible participates in this theological pattern, using the same storm imagery to depict Israel’s God.
