About This Tag

The prophets of the exile and writers after them describe Israel's return from Babylon as a repetition of the escape from Egypt. God again opens a way through the sea and the wilderness, sends a messenger to prepare the road, and brings the people home, so that the deliverance under Moses becomes the pattern for a greater rescue still to come. The parting of the sea, the plagues on Egypt, the guiding messenger, and the hurried departure at Passover all return as images of restoration, now joined to a renewed covenant and a homecoming that reaches beyond Israel to the nations. Later writers read the ministry of Jesus and the visions of the end through the same framework.
