O Sun-god Shamash, when you enter Heaven’s Interior may the bolt of the clear heavens speak a greeting to you May the doors of the heavens bless you. May the gatekeeper of heaven greet you with favor. May Ningal, your beloved spouse, await you with joy, May she soothe your heart with a shining countenance. May your attendant deities stand ready before you. O Shamash, when you enter the depths, your sanctuary in the underworld, May the great gods of the underworld greet you. May the Anunnaki, the great gods, gather around you. As you travel through the night, O judge of heaven and earth, Decide the cases of the wronged, establish justice for the orphan and widow. Illuminate the darkness, let the traveler find his way. Let the bolts of the netherworld be opened for you. May your resting place be peaceful, may your sleep be sweet. Until you rise again at dawn, bringing light to the land.
