About this book

Fragments 1-2 recto i

7 […] Amen, amen. 8 […] … wonders 9 […] … from Egypt 10 [… the] wilderness.

Fragments 1-2 recto ii

6 […] … […] … […] … […] … […] … your … […] 7 We pray, O Lord, act as befits you, according to your great strength, you who forgave 8 our fathers when they rebelled against your word. You were angry with them, so as to destroy them, but you spared 9 them in your love for them and for the sake of your covenant, for Moses atoned 10 for their sin, and so that your great strength and the abundance of your kindness might be known 11 to eternal generations. Let your anger and your wrath turn back from your people Israel, for all their sin. And remember 12 your wonders that you did before the eyes of the nations, for your name is called over us. 13 […] … us with all the heart and with all the soul, and to plant your Torah in our heart, 14 [so that we do not turn from it, to go] to the right or to the left. For you will heal us of madness and blindness and confusion 15 [of heart … Behold, for] our iniquities we were sold, but in spite of our transgressions you called us 16 […] … and you delivered us from sinning against you. 17 […] … and to make us understand the testimonies 18 […] … you made them 19 […] … and their task.

Fragments 1-2 recto iii

1 … […] … […] … 2 … […] … […] … counted … behold, 3 all the nations are [as] nothing before you; [as] chaos and nothingness they are counted before you. 4 Only your name have we invoked, and for your glory you created us. And as sons 5 you set us for yourself before the eyes of all the nations. For you called 6 Israel “my son, my firstborn,” and you disciplined us as a man disciplines 7 his son. And you made us grow through the years of our generations 8 […] evil diseases and famine and thirst and plague and sword 9 […] … your covenant, for you chose us for yourself 10 [as a people from all] the earth. Therefore you poured out your wrath on us 11 [and] your [zeal], with all the heat of your anger. And there clung to us 12 … your … that Moses wrote, and your servants 13 the prophets, whom you sent, so that evil would meet us in the last 14 days. For […] 15 and our kings, for […] 16 to take daughters […] 17 and they acted corruptly in … […] 18 your covenant and … […] 19 the seed of Israel […] 20 you are righteous … […] 21 and … […]

Fragments 1-2 recto iv

1 […] … 2 your dwelling […] … a resting place 3 in Jerusalem, [the city that] you chose from all the earth, 4 so that your [name] would be there forever. For you loved 5 Israel more than all the peoples, and you chose the tribe of 6 Judah, and your covenant you established with David, so that he would be 7 like a shepherd, a leader over your people, and would sit on the throne of Israel before you 8 all the days. And all the nations saw your glory, 9 by which you showed yourself holy in the midst of your people Israel. And to your great 10 name they brought their offering, silver and gold and precious stones, 11 with all the treasure of their land, to honor your people and 12 Zion, your holy city, and your splendid house. And there was no adversary 13 or evil plague, but only peace and blessing … […] 14 And they ate and were satisfied and grew fat […] 15 […] … […]

Fragments 1-2 recto v

1 … […] … [… they abandoned] 2 the source of living water … … 3 and they served a foreign god in their land. And also their land 4 was made desolate by their enemies, for your wrath was poured out, 5 and the heat of your anger, in the fire of your zeal, to lay it waste, 6 with no one passing through or returning. Yet in all this you did not reject 7 the seed of Jacob, and you did not loathe Israel 8 so as to destroy them and break your covenant with them. For you 9 alone are a living God, and there is none besides you. And you remembered your covenant, 10 by which you brought us out before the eyes of the nations, and you did not forsake us 11 among the nations. And you were gracious to your people Israel in all 12 the lands to which you had driven them, so that they would take it 13 to their heart to return to you and to listen to your voice, 14 according to all that you commanded by the hand of Moses your servant. 15 For you have poured out your holy spirit upon us, 16 to bring your blessings to us, so that we would look to you in our distress 17 [and] whisper in the constraint of your discipline. … And we came into distresses 18 [and] afflictions and trials in the wrath of the oppressor. For we too 19 have wearied God with our iniquity; we have burdened the Rock with [our] sin. 20 [But] you did [not] burden us, so that we might profit from our ways, in the [way] 21 [in which we should walk. But] we did not pay attention to [your commandments.]

Fragments 1-2 recto vi

2 […] … [and you cast] away from us all our transgressions, and you purified us 3 from our sin for your own sake. Yours, O Lord, is the righteousness, for 4 you have done all these things. And now, on this very day, 5 when our heart is humbled, we have paid for our iniquity and the iniquity of 6 our fathers, for our unfaithfulness and for walking in hostility. And we have not rejected 7 your trials, and your afflictions our soul has not loathed, so as to break 8 your covenant, in all the distress of our soul. For you, who sent our enemies against us, 9 have strengthened our heart, so that we may recount your might to eternal 10 generations. We pray, O Lord, as you do wonders from eternity to 11 eternity, let your anger and your wrath turn back from us. And see [our affliction] 12 and our trouble and our oppression, and deliver your people Israel [from all] 13 the lands, near and far, to [which you have driven them.] 14 Everyone who is written in the book of life […] 15 to serve you and to give thanks to [your holy name …] 16 from all their adversaries […] 17 those who cause stumbling … […] 18 … […] 19 … […]
