Genesis 36 lists eight kings who ruled in Edom before Israel had a king. 1 Chronicles typically preserves only names but here copies the full details of Edomite kings adds the death of the last one, presenting Edom’s monarchy as a line that has ended.

29 These were the chiefs of the Horites: chief Lotan, chief Shobal, chief Zibeon, chief Anah, 30 chief Dishon, chief Ezer, chief Dishan. These were the chiefs of the Horites, according to their chief lists in the land of Seir. 31 These were the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king ruled over the Israelites: 32 Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom; the name of his city was Dinhabah. 33 When Bela died, Jobab the son of Zerah from Bozrah reigned in his place. 34 When Jobab died, Husham from the land of the Temanites reigned in his place.

... 43-51a The Kings of Edom. This list is taken from Genesis 36:31-39, with which it is essentially identical. The author has used a somewhat different procedure in dealing with his source here, however. Where he regularly extracted only the names from the Genesis lists, this list retains the lengthier style in which the death of a king is noted, as well as the indication that the subsequent king ruled in his place. Chronicles has, perhaps for the sake of consistency, also recorded the death of the last king listed, Hadad (verse 51a), not recorded in Genesis. ...
