36 When Abigail went back to Nabal, he was holding a banquet in his house like that of the king. Nabal was having a good time and was very intoxicated. She told him absolutely nothing until morning’s light. 37 In the morning, when Nabal was sober, his wife told him about these matters. His heart died within him and he became a stone40. 38 After about 10 days the Lord struck Nabal down and he died.

36 And Abigaia came to Nabal: and, behold, he had a banquet in his house, as the banquet of a king, and the heart of Nabal was merry within him, and he was very drunken: and she told him nothing great or small till the morning light. 37 And it came to pass in the morning, when Nabal recovered from his wine, his wife told him these words; and his heart died within him, and he became as a stone. 38 And it came to pass after about ten days, that the Lord smote Nabal, and he died.

"... When Abigail told to Nabal her negotiation with David (1 Samuel 25:37), his heart became “a stone” (1 Samuel 25:37 in the Masoretic text). Both the translator of the Septuagint and the Targumist add the comparative particle and offer the reading “like a stone” – a human heart cannot really become a stone. Perhaps the translator of the Septuagint had a source text already including the comparative כ ..."
