Psalm 119:105
103 Your words are sweeter in my mouth than honey! 104 Your precepts give me discernment. Therefore I hate all deceitful actions. 105 נ (Nun) Your word is a lamp to walk by and a light to illumine my path. 106 I have vowed and solemnly sworn to keep your just regulations. 107 I am suffering terribly. O Lord, revive me with your word.
Proverbs 6:23
21 Bind them on your heart continually; fasten them around your neck. 22 When you walk about, they will guide you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; when you wake up, they will talk to you. 23 For the commandments are like a lamp; instruction is like a light, and rebukes of discipline are like the road leading to life 24 by keeping you from the evil woman, from the smooth tongue of the loose woman. 25 Do not lust in your heart for her beauty, and do not let her captivate you with her alluring eyes;
Notes and References
"... Proverbs 6:22-23 ... this verse has three lines instead of the usual two and also a feminine singular, not easily explained. One solution to the difficulty is to claim (with F. Delitzsch, A. Meinhold) that personified Wisdom is the subject; but she is not mentioned anywhere in this area. A grammatical reference back to v 20 is not easily made because the topics there are plural: command and teaching. Plóger thinks that the parental instruction of verse 20 is viewed as a unit, despite the plurals in verse 21. One might point to Proverbs 3:23-24 as a kind of parallel to this verse: discretion and prudence will guide one’s step and assure one’s sleep. The verse picks up the command and torah of verse 20, a kind of inclusio. The comparison of the parental teaching to a lamp and light is also striking; compare Proverbs 13:9. The comparison to a lamp finds a parallel to the function of the word of the Lord in Psalm 119:105. It is the “way to life” (verse 23b; compare the frequent phrase “paths of life” in Proverbs 2:19; 5:6; 10:17; 15:24) ..."
