Hypertextuality

Hypertextuality describes a relationship between texts where a later work is built from an earlier one through adaptation, rewriting, expansion, or modification. The earlier text provides a foundation that shapes plot, structure, themes, or assumptions, while the later text reshapes that material for a new context or purpose. This relationship does not require direct citation or repetition of wording. Hypertextuality focuses on how texts reuse and transform earlier material, showing continuity and change in literary production across time.
