Heterodiegetic

Heterodiegetic refers to a narrative situation in which the narrator is not part of the story’s events or world. The narrator stands outside the plot and does not appear as a character, instead describing actions, dialogue, and settings from an external position. This perspective allows the narrator to report broadly, comment on events, or shift focus among characters without personal involvement. Heterodiegetic narration is common in third-person storytelling and is useful for presenting a wide view of the narrative without limiting knowledge to a single character’s experience.
