Summary
Date: 20-50 C.E.
The Testament of Moses, also known as the Assumption of Moses, purports to contain secret prophecies Moses revealed to Joshua before passing leadership of the Israelites to him. It contains apocalyptic themes, but is characterized as a testament is it contains Moses' final speech prior to his death. Scholars note that the work includes subtle references and condemnations of the Maccabean priesthood. The English text is based on R. H. Charles's 1913 translation, with archaic language lightly modernized.
