Summary
Date: 92-96 C.E.
The book of Revelation, also commonly called the Apocalypse, was likely written by a Jewish-Christian. Scholarship is generally in agreement that the author is not John, son of Zebedee, or the author of the Gospel of John. The book is notable for its many visions and a writing style that is widely shared among Jewish apocalyptic literature from both the Hebrew Bible and later Second Temple traditions. Scholars are also in general agreement that Revelation was written during the reign of Emperor Domitian.
