Summary
Date: 1200 B.C.E.
Papyrus Harris is an Egyptian New Kingdom manuscript from the Nineteenth Dynasty (c. 1200 BCE). It preserves a collection of Egyptian love songs written in elegant, lyrical verse. These poems were composed for entertainment and private enjoyment, not for ritual use, and they portray affection between lovers through vivid scenes of daily life such as bathing, meeting in gardens, or speaking in secret. The manuscript is divided into several sections.
