Summary
Date: 733 B.C.E.
The Panamuwa inscription, carved on a statue, is written in Samalian Aramaic and was discovered at Zincirli by German archaeologists. It was erected by Bar-Rakib, son of Panamuwa II, to honor his father after his unexpected death during Tiglath-Pileser III’s campaign against Damascus (733–732 BCE). The inscription functions as both a dedicatory and memorial text. While commemorating Panamuwa, it also reinforces Bar-Rakib’s legitimacy to rule.
