Dio Chrysostom was a Greek orator, writer, philosopher and historian of the Roman Empire in the 1st century C.E. He was considered one of the most eminent of the Greek rhetoricians and sophists by the ancients who wrote about him, confirmed by the eighty discourses of his that were preserved. They cover topics including the virtues of kingship, the path of nature, slavery and freedom, and oration.
