The Book of Overthrowing Apophis is an Egyptian ritual text preserved in the Papyrus Bremner-Rhind (British Museum 10188), dated to about 310 BCE but preserving much older material. It contains spells and curses directed against Apophis, the cosmic serpent-dragon who threatened the sun-god Re on his nightly journey through the underworld. The text was recited daily in the Temple of Amon-Re at Karnak.
