Genesis 3:5

Hebrew Bible

4 The serpent said to the woman, “Surely you will not die, 5 for God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will open and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. 6 When the woman saw that the tree produced fruit that was good for food, was attractive to the eye, and was desirable for making one wise, she took some of its fruit and ate it. She also gave some of it to her husband who was with her, and he ate it.

Pseudo Jonathan Genesis 3:5

Targum

4 At that moment the serpent spoke slander against his creator and said to the woman, “You shall not die But every craftsman hates his fellow craftsman 5 For it is manifest before the Lord that on the day on which you eat of it you shall be like the great angels who are able to distinguish good from evil 6 And the woman saw Sammael the angel of death and she was afraid She knew that the tree was good to eat, that it was a cure for the light of the eyes, and that the tree was desirable as a source of wisdom And she took of its fruit and ate; and she also gave to her husband who was with her, and he ate

 Notes and References

"... Genesis 3:5 ... Targum Pseudo-Jonathan combines the reading of Targum Onkelos with “angels,” which we find in other readings. All the Targums of our present verse avoid suggesting that Eve could become like God ..."
