Notes and References

"... Amos 5:26 ... The Masoretic Text has “your king”. The Targummic Aramaic mlk occurs in Isaiah 8:21; Zephaniah 1:5. In Zephaniah 1:5 it translates Milcom, the name of the Ammonite deity, but in Isaiah 8:21 it is a rendering for “king” as here. For a discussion of mlk as the title of a deity in these texts see now G.C. Heider, The Cult of Molek: A Reassessment and the review article of this work by D. Edelman, Journal of the American Oriental Society 107 ... the Masoretic text also has “your image” and “gods” in place of “images” here ..."
