Patristic Pseudepigraphal Citations

Early Christian patristic writers, operating in the second, third, and fourth centuries CE, often cited Pseudepigraphal texts authoritatively and as scripture. This practice was primarily associated with the book known today as 1 Enoch, often using it, and books like it, for theological insights, moral teachings, or eschatological themes. While many of these Pseudepigraphal works heavily influenced early Christian thought, they were eventually excluded from most biblical canons, with a few notable exceptions, due to questions about their authenticity and consistency.
