Habakkuk 2:3

Hebrew Bible

1 I will stand at my watch post; I will remain stationed on the city wall. I will keep watching so I can see what he says to me and can know how I should answer when he counters my argument. 2 The Lord responded: “Write down this message. Record it legibly on tablets so the one who announces it may read it easily. 3 For the message is a witness to what is decreed; it gives reliable testimony about how matters will turn out. Even if the message is not fulfilled right away, wait patiently; for it will certainly come to pass—it will not arrive late. 4 Look, the one whose desires are not upright will faint from exhaustion, but the person of integrity will live because of his faithfulness. 5 Indeed, wine will betray the proud, restless man! His appetite is as big as Sheol’s; like death, he is never satisfied. He gathers all the nations; he seizes all peoples.

Daniel 11:35

Hebrew Bible

33 These who are wise among the people will teach the masses. However, they will fall by the sword and by the flame, and they will be imprisoned and plundered for some time. 34 When they stumble, they will be granted some help. But many will unite with them deceitfully. 35 Even some of the wise will stumble, resulting in their refinement, purification, and cleansing until the time of the end, for it is still for the appointed time. 36 “Then the king will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself above every deity, and he will utter presumptuous things against the God of gods. He will succeed until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been decreed must occur. 37 He will not respect the gods of his fathers—not even the god loved by women. He will not respect any god; he will elevate himself above them all.

 Notes and References

"... Daniel 11:27 and 35 are related most closely to the wording to Habakkuk 2:3. In 11:27 the two kings of the North and South will speak to each other deceitfully, but the deceit (of the King of the North) will not succeed ‘for [the] end [will] still [be] at the appointed time’. Possibly this refers to the death of this person, but perhaps more is intended. Daniel 11:35 speaks about some of those having insight falling so that they will be purged ‘until [the] time of [the] end/end time, for [it is] still for the appointed time’ (my translation; ַע ד( . Daniel ֵמּוֹעַל י־עוֹדִכּ ץֵק תֵד־ע 11:40 starts a new paragraph with a phrase that is almost identical to 8:17 ְוּב (ֵת־קֶעְל ץ ; i.e. ל instead of ב, and no conjunction). In all these verses (i.e. Daniel 8:17, 19; 11:27, 35, 40) ץֵק seems to refer to the ‘apocalyptic end’, i.e. it is an eschatological term. It is particularly significant that the expression ֵקתֵעץ apparently always has such an eschatological connotation (8:17; 11:35, 40; 12:4, 9) ..."
