Jeremiah 14:17

Hebrew Bible

16 The people to whom they are prophesying will die through war and famine. Their bodies will be thrown out into the streets of Jerusalem, and there will be no one to bury them. This will happen to the men and their wives, their sons, and their daughters. For I will pour out on them the destruction they deserve.” 17 “Tell these people this, Jeremiah: ‘My eyes overflow with tears day and night without ceasing. For my virgin daughter, my people, have suffered a crushing blow.45 They have suffered a serious wound. 18 If I go out into the countryside, I see those who have been killed in battle. If I go into the city, I see those who are sick because of starvation. For both prophet and priest—they go peddling in the land but they are not humbled.’”

Lamentations 3:48

Hebrew Bible

46 פ (Pe) All our enemies have gloated over us; 47 panic and pitfall have come upon us, devastation and destruction. 48 Streams of tears flow from my eyes because of the destruction of the daughter of my people.103 49 ע (Ayin) Tears flow from my eyes and will not stop; there will be no break 50 until the Lord looks down from heaven and sees what has happened.

 Notes and References

"... All our enemies are against us. They have opened their mouths wide against us (see 2:16, which quotes the words of the enemies). The nouns translated as terror and pitfalls frequently occur together (e.g. Jeremiah 48:43) and sound the same in Hebrew, adding emphasis. They are paralleled by the words ruin (which occurs only here) and destruction (literally ‘breach’, which is repeated in the next line). Verse 48 returns to the first person, as at the beginning of the chapter. Tears stream from his eyes (compare 1:16; 2:11; Jeremiah 9:1; 14:17) because my people are destroyed (literally ‘because of the breach of the Daughter of my people’; see 2:13, Jeremiah 8:21; 14:17) ..."
