Classical / Pseudo Philo Biblical Antiquities

Summary
Date: 50-120 C.E.

Pseudo-Philo is the name commonly used for the unknown, anonymous author of Biblical Antiquities. Some scholars propose that the Biblical Antiquities was written shortly preceding the destruction of Jerusalem and its temple in 70 C.E. while others suggest that it was written post-70 CE, possibly as late as near the Bar Kokhba revolt. The work itself is a selective rewriting of Jewish scriptural texts and traditions which opens with the creation of the world and ends with the death of King Saul. Many of its additions have parallels in other Jewish traditions.
