Summary
Date: 56-63 C.E.
The letter to the Philippians reflects the thoughts of Paul during a period of imprisonment. Scholarship is divided if the letter is a unity or is perhaps the combination of two or three letters. It contains warnings of false teachers and exhortations for unity and joy in the community in the face of dissension. While the cause of this dissension is not made clear, it is likely connected to the conceit and and lack of humility Paul condemns in the letter. Notable in the second chapter of Philippians is an early hymn describing the nature and ministry of Christ.
