1 John is the first epistle to the Johannine community of Jesus followers who had recently undergone a schism. Scholars are in general agreement that the letter was not written by the same individual who wrote the Gospel of John, but rather a member of the same community. The letter utilizes much of the same specific language as other Johannine literature including an emphasis on "Light" and "Love".
