And her hands, how 5 perfect! And how desirable is the whole appearance of her hands. How fair are her palms, and how long and slender are all the fingers of her hands. Her feet, 6 how beautiful! And how perfect are her legs. No virgins or brides who enter the bridal chamber are more beautiful than she. Above all 7 women her beauty is beautiful, and her beauty is high above them all. And with all this beauty there is much wisdom in her, and the work of her hands 8 is lovely.” And when the king heard the words of Hyrcanus and the words of his two companions, for the three of them spoke with one mouth, he desired her greatly, and he sent 9 quickly and had her brought. And he saw her and was amazed at all her beauty, and he took her for himself as a wife. And he sought to kill me, but Sarai said 10 to the king, “He is my brother,” so that I might profit on her account. And I, Abram, was left alive because of her, and I was not killed. And I, Abram, wept 11 bitterly, I and Lot my brother’s son with me, on the night when Sarai was taken from me by force. 12 That night I prayed and pleaded and begged, and I said in my sorrow, while my tears ran down, “Blessed are you, God Most High, my Lord, for all 13 ages. For you are Lord and ruler over all, and over all the kings of the earth you rule, to carry out judgment on all of them. And now 14 I bring my complaint to you, my Lord, against Pharaoh Zoan, king of Egypt, because my wife has been taken from me by force. Carry out judgment on him for me, and show your great hand 15 against him and against all his house, and let him not be able this night to defile my wife, away from me. And they will know you, my Lord, that you are Lord over all the kings of 16 the earth.” And I wept and was silent. That night God Most High sent him a spirit of affliction to strike him and all the men of his house, an evil 17 spirit, and it kept afflicting him and all the men of his house. And he was not able to come near her, and he did not know her, though she was with him 18 two years. And at the end of two years the afflictions and plagues grew harder and stronger on him and on all the men of his house. And he sent 19 and called for all the wise men of Egypt and all the enchanters, with all the healers of Egypt, to see whether they could heal him of this affliction, him and the men of 20 his house. But all the healers and the enchanters and all the wise men were not able to rise and heal him, for the spirit afflicted all of them, 21 and they fled. Then Hyrcanus came to me and asked me to come and pray over 22 the king and lay my hands on him so that he might live, for he had seen me in a dream. But Lot said to him, “Abram my uncle cannot pray over 23 the king while Sarai his wife is with him. Now go, tell the king to send his wife away from him to her husband, and he will pray over him, and he will live.” 24 And when Hyrcanus heard the words of Lot, he went and said to the king, “All these afflictions and plagues 25 with which my lord the king is afflicted and plagued are because of Sarai, the wife of Abram. Let them return Sarai to Abram her husband, 26 and this affliction and the spirit of festering will depart from you.” And the king called me and said to me, “What have you done to me because of Sarai? You said 27 to me, ‘She is my sister,’ when she was your wife, and I took her for myself as a wife. Here is your wife; take her, go, and get yourself out of 28 all the province of Egypt. And now pray over me and over my house, that this evil spirit may be rebuked away from us.” And I prayed over him […], 29 and I laid my hands on his head, and the affliction was removed from him, and the evil [spirit] was rebuked [away from him], and he lived. 1 in every place of my encampments until I reached Bethel, the place where I had built an altar, and I built it a second time 2 and offered on it burnt offerings and a grain offering to God Most High. And I called there on the name of the Lord of the ages, and I praised the name of God and blessed 3 God. And I gave thanks there before God for all the possessions and the good things that he had given me, and because he had done good to me and had brought me back 4 to this land in peace. 5 After that day Lot parted from me because of the conduct of our shepherds. And he went and settled in the valley of the Jordan, and all his possessions 6 with him. And I too added much to what was his. And he was pasturing his flocks, and he reached Sodom and bought himself a house in Sodom 7 and lived in it. But I was living on the mountain of Bethel, and it grieved me that Lot my brother’s son had parted from me. 8 And God appeared to me in a vision of the night and said to me, “Go up to Ramath-hazor, which is to the left of 9 Bethel, the place where you are living, and lift up your eyes and look to the east and to the west and to the south and to the north, and see all 10 this land that I am giving to you and to your seed for all ages.” And I went up the next day to Ramath-hazor, and I saw the land from 11 that height, from the river of Egypt to Lebanon and Senir, and from the Great Sea to Hauran, and all the land of Gebal as far as Kadesh, and all the Great Desert 12 that is east of Hauran and Senir, as far as the Euphrates. And he said to me, “To your seed I will give all this land, and they will inherit it for all ages. 13 And I will multiply your seed like the dust of the earth, which no one is able to count; so too your seed will not be counted. Rise, walk, and go 14 and see how great is its length and how great is its breadth, for I will give it to you and to your seed after you for all ages.” 15 And I, Abram, went to go around and see the land. And I began to go around from the river Gihon, and I came along the sea until 16 I reached the Mountain of the Bull. And I went around from beside this Great Sea of Salt and went along the Mountain of the Bull to the east, through the breadth of the land, 17 until I reached the river Euphrates. And I went around along the Euphrates until I reached the Red Sea, to the east, and I was going along 18 the Red Sea until I reached the tongue of the Sea of Reeds, which goes out from the Red Sea. And I went around to the south until I reached the river 19 Gihon. And I returned and came to my house in peace and found all my people well. And I went and settled at the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, 20 to the northeast of Hebron. And I built an altar there and offered on it a burnt offering and a grain offering to God Most High. And I ate and drank there, 21 I and all the men of my house. And I sent and called Mamre and Arnem and Eshcol, the three Amorite brothers, my friends, and they ate together 22 with me and drank with me. 23 Before those days there came Chedorlaomer king of Elam, Amraphel king of Babylon, Arioch king of Cappadocia, and Tidal king of Goiim, which 24 is between the rivers. And they made war on Bera king of Sodom, and on Birsha king of Gomorrah, and on Shinab king of Admah, 25 and on Shemiabad king of Zeboiim, and on the king of Bela. All these joined together for battle in the valley of Siddim. And the king of 26 Elam and the kings who were with him overpowered the king of Sodom and all his allies, and they imposed tribute on them. For twelve years they were 27 paying their tribute to the king of Elam, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled against him. And in the fourteenth year the king of Elam led all 28 his allies, and they went up the way of the desert, and they were striking and plundering from the river Euphrates. And they struck the Rephaim who were in Ashteroth- 29 karnaim, and the Zumzamim who were in Ammon, and the Emim who were in Shaveh-hakerioth, and the Horites who were in the mountains of Gebal, until they reached El- 30 paran, which is in the desert. And they turned back and struck En-dina [and the men] who were in Hazazon-tamar. 31 And the king of Sodom went out to meet them, and the king of [Gomorrah … and the] king of Admah and the king of Zeboiim and the king of Bela, and they joined battle 32 in the valley of [Siddim] against Chedorlaomer [king of Elam and the kings] who were with him. And the king of Sodom was defeated and fled, and the king of Gomorrah 33 fell into the pits [of bitumen …] … And the king of Elam plundered all the property of Sodom and of 34 Gomorrah … […] … And they took captive Lot, the son of the brother

1 of Abram, who was living in Sodom together with them, and all his possessions. And there came one of the shepherds of 2 the flock that Abram had given to Lot, who had escaped from the captivity, to Abram. And Abram was then 3 living in Hebron. And he told him that Lot his brother’s son had been taken captive, with all his possessions, but had not been killed, and that 4 the kings had set out by the way of the Great Valley toward their province, taking captives and plundering and striking and killing, and were going 5 to the province of Damascus. And Abram wept over Lot his brother’s son. Then Abram took courage and rose 6 and chose from his servants three hundred and eighteen men picked for battle, and Arnem 7 and Eshcol and Mamre set out with him. And he pursued them until he reached Dan, and he found them 8 camping in the valley of Dan. And he fell on them by night from all four sides, and he was killing 9 among them in the night, and he routed them. And he pursued them, and all of them were fleeing before him 10 until they reached Helbon, which lies to the left of Damascus. And he took back from them everyone they had captured 11 and everything they had plundered and all their goods. And Lot his brother’s son he also saved, and all his possessions, and all 12 the captives that they had taken he brought back. And the king of Sodom heard that Abram had brought back all the captives 13 and all the plunder, and he went up to meet him. And he came to Salem, which is Jerusalem, while Abram was camped in the valley of 14 Shaveh, which is the valley of the king, the valley of Beth-hakerem. And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out 15 food and drink for Abram and for all the men who were with him. And he was the priest of God Most High. And he blessed 16 Abram and said, “Blessed is Abram by God Most High, Lord of heaven and earth, and blessed is God Most High, 17 who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” And he gave him a tithe of all the property of the king of Elam and his allies. 18 Then the king of Sodom drew near and said to Abram, “My lord Abram, 19 give me the people who are mine, who are captives with you, whom you rescued from the king of Elam, and the property, 20 all of it, is left to you.” Then Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I raise 21 my hand this day to God Most High, Lord of heaven and earth: not a thread or a sandal strap 22 will I take from anything that is yours, so that you will not say, ‘From my property comes all the wealth of 23 Abram,’ apart from what my young men who are with me have already eaten, and apart from the portion of the three men who 24 went with me. They are masters of their portion, to give it to you.” And Abram returned all the property and all 25 the captives and gave them to the king of Sodom. And all the captives who were with him from this land he set free 26 and sent them all away. 27 After these things God appeared to Abram in a vision and said to him, “Behold, ten years 28 are complete since the day you went out from Haran: two you spent here, and seven in Egypt, and one 29 since you returned from Egypt. And now examine and count all that you have, and see how many times over it has grown beyond 30 all that went out with you on the day you left Haran. And now do not be afraid; I am with you, and I will be for you 31 support and strength. And I am a shield over you, and your buckler against one stronger than you. Your wealth and your possessions 32 will grow very great.” And Abram said, “My Lord God, I have much wealth and many possessions, but what are 33 all these to me, when I die and go naked, without sons, and one of the sons of my house will inherit from me? 34 Eliezer, son of [my house …] … will inherit from me.” And he said to him, “This one will not inherit from you, but one who will come out
